EdisonLearning’s second fully online state-wide high opened this year in Colorado, Provost Academy Colorado. Provost Academy South Carolina, beginning its second year with 1,500 students, showed that its students taking the national SAT tests scored above both the national and state average.

In Ohio, EdisonLearning and dropout recovery experts Alternatives Unlimited this school year opened eight Drop-Back-In Centers in Columbus and Cleveland. Online high school to host Open House in MB

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Students looking for an alternative to a traditional high school education may not have to look any further than their computer.

Provost Academy South Carolina, a free online public high school, will be hosting an Open House for prospective students on Oct. 12 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event, according to organizers, will be held at the Chapin Memorial Library in Myrtle Beach.

SAT & AP Scores Released

Thirty-eight schools had composite scores that surpassed the national average. Several schools in the Midlands met the criteria: North Central High School in Kershaw, Lexington High and Pelion High in Lexington One, Chapin High and Dutch Fork High in Lexington/Richland Five, A.C. Flora in Richland One, Spring Valley High School in Richland Tw,o and three from the SC Public Charter School District: Provost Academy, SC Virtual Charter School and Connections Academy.

With Advanced Placement tests, South Carolina’s public school students showed improvement. In the last five years, there has been a 36.6 percent increase in the number of South Carolina students taking AP exams.

Online Schools Grow In Popularity

The three attend high school online through a public charter school called Provost Academy. The sisters say it’s every bit as challenging as regular high school, it’s just easier to fit into their busy schedule.

It’s a sentiment shared by those who run the school.

“We remove the barrier of time,” explained Provost Academy’s Executive Director Darrell Johnson.

He says may students who need the non-traditional setting find it a better fit.

Virtual high school gives students alternative to classrooms

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Students looking for something other than the traditional high school experience are turning their attention to a new online school to earn their diplomas.

Provost Academy South Carolina continues to enroll students in its free, online public high school through a series of open house events across the state. Provost Academy officials announced they will be in Myrtle Beach on Tuesday to speak to prospective students across the Grand Strand.
